Outside Andrew Callaghan’s Channel 5 show in Denver, Luchi and Brody hear the pitch for the bounty programme. Asked what makes Callaghan different, they say he lets people talk.
The pitch is the fullest version on tape. “we give away a hundred bucks in crypto every week to people that go out and ask our questions on video, pick our favorite ones. And essentially, whoever, when we pick our question, we’re querying the globe, right? We have people in India, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, participate so far outside the U.S.” The reason is the moment: “in this moment where we’re going to war, right, it’s like, how do we even think about the impact of this war in different parts of the planet.” And the line the piece is named for: “the victors are the history books, the victors. True. So I think this time we should do our work to archive, you know, from all sides.”
What brings the two of them out is news, “but news on this planet.” On what makes it stand out: “he gets in the cut he gets deep he gets deep in the cut he gets both sides,” and then the sharper version, “he doesn’t ask the questions he just lets people talk.” The interviewer takes the note on the spot. Their message for Andrew is two words and a cheer.
